Healing the Broken Jewish Soul After a Child’s Suicide: An Illustrated Book Talk

April 27, 2018 | 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

Free

Following Shabbat services, author Susan Auerbach will share excerpts and discuss themes from her grief memoir, “I’ll Write Your Name on Every Beach: A Mother’s Quest for Comfort, Courage & Clarity After Suicide Loss.”  Hear how ritual, text, spiritual practice, and community became both containers for expressing grief and resources for coping with traumatic loss and will conclude with questions and comments from the audience, as well as a book signing.   Dr. Auerbach, a CSUN professor and twice a suicide survivor, has spoken about her book at Los Angeles-area bookstores and synagogues, as well as International Suicide Survivor Day, The Compassionate Friends meetings, and at therapist organizations.   She serves on the advisory board of Survivors After Suicide of Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services and the L.A. County Suicide Prevention Network and does public speaking on youth suicide with Teen Line. “Susan’s words of wisdom about her grief journey resonated with a wide audience, whether directly affected by suicide or not.”,  said a Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center Board member who heard her speak.  “Her spiritual journey is an uplifting example of human resilience and the ability to move forward after tragedy.”
